In other parts of the country affected by the storm, East Anglia for example, there were two distinct peaks in the wind one from the south roughly between 0200 and 0400 GMT and another from the south-west approximately between 0500 and 0800 GMT. This in itself was quite unusual because the strongest winds over the UK usually come from directions between west and south-west rather than from the south to south-west.
