I know of some 5 year olds who drink coffee. I have seen parents give sips of coffee to kids as young as 3.
I have never let my kids try coffee or soda. It’s not that I’m a health nut. We go to McDonalds, eat frozen pizza and candy. But coffee just seems a bit extreme.

Wow, you’re good. You come up with some great Parenting Polls. I’m often disturbed when I see kids (middle and high school) at my local Starbucks and ordering uber-caffeinated drinks. I was raised under the premise that coffee stunts your growth. My parents never allowed us to go near it. I didn’t have my first cup until college.
Our son, two-years-old, will not be drinking coffee, nor will he be drinking any soda. He hasn’t thus far.
I tell my kids if you’re going to drink coffee you have to drink it BLACK! That usually puts and end to the whole issue.
They just want the extra sugar and cream.
I drink coffee and then breastfeed; does that count? I wouldn’t give my daughter coffee (at almost one year old) but I’m sorry, going without it for nine months of pregnancy was hell enough!
I heard from my co-worker that coffee helped her son with ADHD which my son has as well. I give him about a half of a cup a day and I am extremely happy with the result. He is calm almost 90% of the time and he is more focused. The half cup of coffee is the only caffene he gets all day so I’m sure he is not being harmed by it.
